What is Sherbet?

  • It contains dairy, fruit and sugar/honey.
  • May also contain gelatin, egg whites.
  • The addition of milk/dairy makes it creamier than sorbet.

What is the difference between Sherbet and Sorbet?

Sherbet is a frozen dessert made with fruit juice which is then added to milk, cream, egg white, or gelatin,

Sorbet  is a frozen dessert made from sugar-sweetened water with flavoring – typically fruit juice, fruit puréewineliqueur or honey.

Generally sorbets do not contain dairy ingredients, while sherbets do.

We are experiencing a mighty heat wave this summer, for the past few days.It almost makes one feel like a fire breathing dragon.Luckily, for us,I had made a fresh batch of Watermelon Mint Sherbet, anticipating the weather.

The four main ingredients

The watermelon- mint sherbet has been on my To-Do-List for summer for a while now. When I bought the melons home that is exactly what I planned to do.

The mint in my patio garden has grown abundantly this season and I love including it in my recipes. Nothing to beat the cool, fresh minty flavor in your menu.

Each Fall season, I buy local honey from the farmer’s fair at the pumpkin patch, that lasts for the whole year, until the next fall season come around. A friend told me, consuming local honey helps prevent pollen allergies caused seasonally and it has worked.You might want to try that little handy tip too, if you suffer from pollen allergies.

Canned coconut milk, works best for this recipe, but if you are able to make fresh coconut milk even better!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups 3 Seedless Watermelon cubes

  • 1 can 1 Coconut Milk

  • 6-8 6-8 Mint Leaves

  • 1 tbsp 1 Honey optional

Directions

  • Add all the ingredients in a blender & blend until smooth
  • Pour it into a freezer friendly pan and freeze the mix for 2-3 hours covered in stretch wrap
  • Remove it from freezer & break into chunks . Blend it once more, into a fine paste .This makes it smoother & creamier.
  • Pour it into a glass pan & freeze overnight. Serve chilled with mint on top.

Notes

  • The addition of coconut milk makes it creamier.
