  • 2 2 (chopped) Tomatoes

  • 1/2 1/2 bunch Cilantro/Coriander leaves

  • 3/4 tsp 3/4 Chilli powder

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 Turmeric powder

  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 Tamarind paste

  • Salt- to taste

  • Heat oil in a pan, add the seasoning ingredients one by one, until they turn light brown.
  • Now add the finely sliced onions& turmeric powder, saute it for a few minutes.
  • Next add the chopped tomatoes, chilli powder,& finely cut cilantro/coriander leaves & keep stirring till the tomatoes are cooked or cover the pan with a lid & stir occasionally for a few minutes.
  • Add salt to the above.
  • Wait for the above mix to cool a little, before transferring it into the blender.
  • Add the tamarind paste.
  • Blend the mix, into a fine paste without adding any water.
  • Ready to serve with idlis/dosas/appas etc.

  • This chutney can be used as a variation instead of regular coconut chutneys,it can be used as a dip,it can be used in sandwiches in layering too…..just a spicy twist to regular idli days:).On second thoughts, it will be a hit with sweet dosas of any kind ( Thekkare/cucumber dosas for example:)…..for those us who want to watch the butter roll down the curves:)
