Purple Coneflower /Hedgehog Coneflower /Echinacea purpurea is a North American flowering plant of the sunflower family. It’s a classic perennial that blooms throughout Spring to late summer and one of the most popular native wild flower.It has a large center cone  (hence the name Hedgehog Coneflower ) surrounded by pink purple petals.It is highly attractive to butterflies and songbirds when grown in the garden They repel deer and applying their infusion is good for a sunburn.Good fresh cut or dried flower. The dead flower stems will remain erect well into the winter, and if flower heads are not removed, the blackened cones may be visited by goldfinches or other birds that feed on the seeds.
