What is Kindness?

Kindness (noun) : Loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness

National random acts of kindness day/week

Did you know there is a National Day and Week for Random acts of Kindness ? Me neither ! It must be really getting sparse, was my first thought when I heard about it. Or perhaps, it’s a day to remind us to put our focus more on just “being kind”, which really has to be everyday.

Either way, it is celebrated on February 17th, as RAK day (Random Act of Kindness Day) or for a week starting from February 16th – 23rd in 2020.

When it all started

The term random act of kindness is generally attributed to Anne Herbert who wrote, “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty” on a restaurant place mat.The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAK) was founded in 1995 in the US as a way to encourage spreading kindness to each other.

What does “random acts of kindness” mean?

The term refers to selfless acts, both large and small, that are committed unexpectedly, without prompting and with no apparent ulterior motive.

Many a time we find ourselves in the receiving end of rudeness, be it in words or deeds. It is not uncommon to find people exploiting you at your most vulnerable moments. How do you deal with these acts of rudeness then, some outright vicious, some bordering on veiled sarcasm.

Be the better person.For your part be kind. It does not mean you forget self preservation.You got to draw healthy boundaries if it comes to that. Being kind & compassionate to yourself is where it all begins.

When you find another in a vulnerable position, offer your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness, coz’ kindness matters!

In a world where we can be anything we want, choose kindness everyday!
