Purple Cabbage Poriyal/Upkari
Oil- 2 tsp
Channa dhal- 1/2 tsp
Uradh Dhal -1/2 tsp
Mustard- 1 tsp
Hing/Asoefoetida- a pinch
Dry red chillies- 3-4
Onion-1(medium size, finely sliced)
Salt- to taste
Purple cabbage-1 (medium size)
1.Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel,when warm add channa,uradh dhal,mustard seeds, hing/asafoetida & do the seasoning.When this starts to crackle & turn brownish,add the dry red chillies & onions & saute for a few minutes.
2.Now add the finely cut purple cabbage to this along with salt.
3.Stir a few times & close the lid to cook in its own steam.
4.Ready to be served with rice or can be used to stuff into rolled chappatis for kids:).Looks colorful with curd rice!
Note: Can add a sprinkling of coconut at the end to flavor it as the water completely dissapears from the preparation,or can avoid adding coconut for health reasons.
